IC is a devastating and incurable disease of the bladder.
Approximately 90% of
sufferers are women, although in many cases it can be misdiagnosed as something
else in men. Symptoms are severe and vary from patient to patient. They
consist of any combination of urinary frequency, urinary urgency, pressure and
pain, often extreme, in the bladder. Even without the pain life can be
unbearable. We all know the awful consequences of IC: you cannot even sit in a car because the pain is too excruciating; you certainly cannot confidently take a plane trip; you cannot go to a movie; you cannot go out to eat because too many foods aggravate the condition; you cannot have sexual intercourse because of the pain involved. Your life as you knew it is over.
