(This is in response to the constant maligning of Dr. Brizman on certain websites, one in particular which does not allow positive posts about her and her incredible success in treating IC.  We feet compelled to voice our reply).

There are many IC treatments out there, Dr. Brizman's included.  Each of us has the right to choose which form of treatment we wish to follow, since not all of them will be right for everyone.  Those who choose to undertake Dr. Brizman's treatment are given a set of ground rules to follow; one being that this will not be a quick fix and if you don't follow the treatment exactly, you may not feel that it is working.  Some people who begin treatment have given up before feeling the positive effects.  There are multiple reasons for this, but from my conversations with some of these people, it is usually for the following reasons:  they could not give up some of the foods they love to eat even though they acknowledge that they cause symptoms; they wanted a miracle and have found that following the treatment process is just too difficult; there was peer pressure from their friends and family to seek out one of the many Western alternatives; or they were simply not communicating everything they were taking or doing which was counteracting the treatment.  This is something that many people do innocently, not realizing the side-effects.  Everything you put in your mouth or do with your body in the beginning is critical for Dr. Brizman to be aware of.

Many people have benefited from Dr. Brizman and her treatment. Not only has she shown compassion and respect for people, she has maintained her composure when there are negative posts and emails about her from those she has not been able to help, mostly for one or more of the reasons above.  Like any doctor, Dr. Brizman is faced with the differing personalities of her patients.  She treats patients with IC, all of whom are seeking relief for their symptoms and many who are exhibiting "urgent and panic"-type emotions.  All of us have been there, where we have so much pain or discomfort that we find ourselves lashing out at the doctor who is trying to help us.  We do not see such strong negativity against other practitioners on the various IC boards and websites if a patient is unable to be helped by them.  However, people seem to feel free to malign Dr. Brizman and her reputation on these boards and sites, without substantiation. And, on one respected site, all positive posts about Dr. Brizman are removed.

Dr. Brizman has helped so many people. Most of us have been the Western route and although we were not helped, we did not post malicious comments about our Urologists.  We simply moved on.   We chose our own paths, and many chose Dr. Brizman.  We have been helped so much by her that we continue, by choice, to allow her to treat us.

The old adage works here.  If you don't have anything positive to say, don't say anything.  Dr. Brizman has always respected people's choice of treatment, whether they decide to see her or someone else.  Her treatment is not for everyone, but it most definitely works for those that stick with it.  Discrediting Dr. Brizman, her patients, or her work is self-destructive and irresponsible, and furthermore, might prevent someone from finding the help they so desperately seek.
