Who Is Dr. Brizman....Dr. Matia Brizman, Ph.D. M.T.O.M., L.Ac., D.Ac., Dipl.Ac. & C.H. Dr. Brizman
has treated many IC patients over the course of her young practice. She treats
primarily women since the majority of patients are female, but she also treats
men. A quote from her interview (taken from “An Interview with Dr. Matia Brizman))
explains why she decided to practice Chinese medicine. “Several years ago I
was very, very sick and there was little that Western medicine could do for me.
I was left feeling hopeless with nowhere else to turn. So I turned to Chinese
medicine. When Chinese medicine helped me regain control of my life I vowed
that I would dedicate my life to helping others. I had a lucrative and
successful career in another area but I quit and decided to go to school to
learn how to practice this type of medicine. Giving people their lives back is
what I live for. I love to take someone who has tried everything and can’t get
better any other way and help that person.” Dr. Brizman
has been developing her work since 1995 when she started her internship. Having
a very strong interest in research, her goals have been focused on keeping her
work private until such time as she could commence a formal research project. Keeping her formulas private is her way of
preserving her work and its integrity in the mean time. This will prevent
incorrect applications of her formulas. This means that the process from start
to finish must be delivered correctly month after month with constant formula
changes being delivered at the appropriate times. Without the appropriate
application, not only will the process not work; both Chinese medicine and its
ability to treat this disease will get a “bad wrap”.
The medical community in general wants there
to be a magic “pill” to fix a given problem. This is neither the philosophy upon
which Chinese medicine nor Dr. Brizman’s work is based. Her approach to this illness
as well as any other complex disease is to individualize each treatment. Her
methods are deeply rooted in the fundamentals of Chinese medicine, but the
application of those methods have been modernized to fit the model of IC. It is
because of this that she is having such good results with her treatments. Dr. Brizman is unlike any other medical professional that you will ever meet. She is incredibly compassionate, caring, dedicated and passionate about helping her patients. You only have to read all the patient stories to see how consistently they confirm these facts. She listens and she fully understands. Understands is the major word here. Have you actually spoken to a urologist who “understands” what you have? Goes over your symptoms in the minutest detail? Tries to describe to you what you are feeling? Dr. Brizman does. You know that she “gets” this disease and you know that she is completely involved in your treatment.
Are we
all the same? Are our symptoms all the same? No. Why are we all being given
the same pill, or the same procedure. How can Ditropan, or Detrol or Pyridium
help someone who has frequency and pressure, someone who has urgency and pain,
someone who as burning and pressure? Not only does it not make sense but it
doesn’t give us the degree of relief we are seeking. If you don’t understand
what causes something how can you treat it?
Here is an important fact:
You will find this
repeated throughout the website. No two people are totally alike. If you talk
to 10 IC patients you will find 10 different combinations of symptoms from which
they are suffering. Imagine one pill or one procedure fixing that problem.
Does it make sense? Imagine someone who takes a complete history; who looks at
you; who examines you; who tailors the “medication”, in this case herbs, to you
personally, almost down to the last grain; who adjusts those herbs again and
again as she sees the effects of the different herbs on you. Eventually the
right combination is achieved and you really begin to move forward in a positive
direction.
Dr.
Brizman
provides some insight into Chinese medicine in her
interview
on this website so we will
not repeat it here. However, we will say that it makes sense, it is healthy,
and it works. In the hands of a gifted professional like Dr. Brizman it is amazing.
Her in-depth knowledge of herbs and acupuncture, combined with her intimate
understanding of the disease make for an awesome outcome. She has the herbs
mixed specially for the individual she is treating. She will adjust the mix
time and time again as she follows the progress of each person to get optimum
results – cleansing and healing with the least amount of discomfort.
We have all read the
horror stories of those thousands of people who have been suffering from IC for
years with no relief. We don’t have to read the stories, we have our own
experiences to go by. Imagine that you walk into a medical clinic and find that
you can actually get help. This medical professional is available to help you
during the down times. She follows up with you on a regular basis. You may
doubt the process but you trust her. You just know she knows what she is
doing. Eventually you come through the worst and you realize that a small
miracle has happened. Not only is your discomfort significantly reduced, so are
a lot of the other problems you have. She has done her homework and is
involving herself in treating the whole you. That medical professional is Dr.
Matia
Brizman, and you feel that she is completely involved with you on a personal
basis.
There
are more horror stories about the ravages
of
traditional treatment
than there are success stories. Just visit many of
the support sites for IC and thoroughly depress yourself with the sad tales of
years of pain and discomfort. Most of these people are going to traditional
doctors. I am sure you have seen the stories of people coming home after a DMSO
treatment, screaming in agony. Or the person who is taking Elmiron who ends up
with ringing in the ears and her hair falling out, or in some cases, liver
damage. Many people are walking medicine cabinets. Some are even told that they
just have to live with it. What kind of treatments are these? If any of this
worked would you see all the messages from people suggesting the most
off-the-wall product or questionable procedure, simply out of desperation.
We,
understand that, in the wrong hands, herbs can also be toxic. As mentioned,
Dr. Brizman has an in-depth a knowledge of herbs. She has obtained the highest
standards for Chinese herbal medicine certification in the U.S., having passed
both state and national boards. She knows what to administer, when to
administer and when to remove. They are healthy and nourishing and provide a
great deal of the ingredients for which we all took synthetic products in the
past (vitamins etc.). You cannot
argue with the fact that there is someone who knows her trade so well and knows
the disease so intimately that she is consistently helping so many people with
IC. These are mostly people who had tried everything and were still suffering.
These are people who quickly saw a difference. They saw that the process worked
and that there was light at the end of the tunnel. They came to Dr. Brizman because they had no other choice. And the ones that stick with it never look back. Many of them are already symptom-free, and so many more are on the way to the achieving the greatest sense of wellness they have had since their disease began.
